CREATING
A WEBSITE - Click here
It is not so scary creating a website. You can have a website that
contains only 1 page or hundreds of pages. The key is to have software
that allows you to produce your site quickly and easily. Most products on
the market today are designed so you don't need any programming knowledge.
This makes owning a website more accessible to absolutely everybody.
We are big advocates of the
KISS method (keep it simple stupid) and recommend you spend the majority
of your time mapping out/laying out your website for ease of navigation.
The best rule of thumb is become your customer, get your friends and
relatives to play with the site. Don't get bogged down, your website
should be informative and compelling to your customer. Forget the fancy
stuff - people will switch off.
Using a simple web creation
tool will create as good a site as a fancy web creation tool so don't be
put off when reviewing software options.
HOSTING
AND DOMAIN NAMES - Click here
When your website is completed you
need to host your site on a server. What this basically means you buy
space on a server through a hosting supplier. This space is made available
to you so you can upload your site for everybody to see. There are
thousands of hosting suppliers world wide. Over time the cost of hosting
space has become extremely affordable. Often hosting suppliers will offer
you the ability to register your domain name with them as well. This makes
it really easy for you to manage your site.
A domain name is the
identifier of your site. There are simply hundreds and thousands of
options to choose from when choosing a domain name. The business you
register your domain name with is commonly known as a domain registrar.
They manage your domain name on your behalf.
If you are new to creating
websites we recommend you choose a hosting and domain registration package
with the one company. This will minimise any confusion you may have when
managing your site.
Finally when choosing your
hosting and domain supplier make sure you carefully check their support to
ensure you are comfortable with what they are offering you if you get
stuck.
